Bijoy to Unicode
Bijoy to Unicode conversion of old SutonnyMJ text — the kind that looks like "Avwg evsjvq Mvb MvB" — into Bengali you can use in browsers, on phones and in Google Docs. It runs in your browser and works offline.

How to convert Bijoy to Unicode
Bijoy to Unicode needs one paste and no setup. After conversion the Bengali lives in the text itself, not in whichever font is installed.
Step by step
- Copy the Bijoy / SutonnyMJ text — the version that shows Latin letters such as "Avwg evsjvq Mvb MvB".
- Paste it into the input box on the left.
- The Unicode Bengali result appears in the right-hand box while you type or paste.
- Copy it anywhere: a website or CMS, Google Docs, e-mail, WhatsApp, a database field, a translation tool.
- In a word processor, apply any Bengali Unicode font; nothing special is needed just to read it.
What you need before you start
Nothing but a browser. There is no install and no account, and the Bijoy font does not have to be installed for the conversion to work.
What Bijoy to Unicode conversion actually does
This direction does not translate anything either. It reads the ANSI code points SutonnyMJ would have drawn as Bengali and writes the matching Unicode characters.
What the Bijoy ANSI encoding is
SutonnyMJ is not a Unicode font. It maps Bengali glyphs onto Latin and punctuation code points in a legacy ANSI code page, so a Bijoy document is stored as Latin characters: <strong>Avwg evsjvq Mvb MvB</strong> is "আমি বাংলায় গান গাই".
What Unicode gives you instead
Unicode Bengali stores the characters themselves in the U+0980–U+09FF block: <strong>অ</strong> is U+0985, <strong>ক</strong> is U+0995, <strong>ি</strong> is U+09BF. Nothing depends on a font being present.
Why conversion is not just a font change
Installing SutonnyMJ and reading the file is a workaround, not a conversion: the bytes are still Latin, so search engines, phones and screen readers see the wrong thing. A real conversion rewrites the code points.
Why your Bijoy text looks like English
This question brings most people to the page, and the answer is mechanical rather than a sign of a corrupt file.
The code points really are Latin letters
When Bengali is typed in Bijoy the file receives bytes in the Latin range: A, v, w, g, plus punctuation. Those bytes have no Bengali identity. The font turns them into Bengali shapes, and without it the system shows exactly what is stored.
Why it looks fine on one machine and wrong on another
A computer with SutonnyMJ installed shows the file perfectly, which misleads everyone. Send it to a colleague, open it in Google Docs or read it on a phone and the font is missing, so the Latin code points appear.
Why convert Bijoy to Unicode at all
Four pressures push almost every organisation with old Bijoy material towards Unicode, and they tend to arrive together.
Search engines cannot read ANSI text
Google indexes characters, not glyphs. If the Bengali on a news site is stored as "Avwg evsjvq", that is all a crawler sees, so the article and the archive are invisible online.
Phones and modern editors do not know SutonnyMJ
Android, iOS, WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Docs, most CMS platforms and every browser expect Unicode. None of them will install a legacy Bengali font, so content meant for phones has to be Unicode before it reaches them.
Copy-paste stops breaking between systems
Copy a Bijoy paragraph into a Unicode document and two encodings mix in one line. Once everything is Unicode, text moves between Windows, macOS, phones and web forms safely.
Accessibility, translation and archives need Unicode
Screen readers cannot pronounce Latin bytes as Bengali, and machine translation, spell checkers and language models all operate on Unicode. An ANSI archive needs a specific font on every future machine.
Where Bijoy to Unicode output works immediately
Web, mobile and messaging
- Websites and CMS — article bodies, titles, tags, slugs and excerpts become indexable and searchable.
- Phones and messaging — WhatsApp, Messenger, Viber, SMS: no font installation, no fallback Latin.
- E-mail — the recipient sees Bengali on whatever device and mail client they use.
Documents, data and language tools
- Google Docs and cloud suites — collaboration, comments and version history keep working on Bengali text.
- Databases and spreadsheets — fields sort, search and match consistently instead of holding Latin lookalikes.
- Translation and language tools — Google Translate, spell checkers and language models accept the text at all.
What this Bijoy to Unicode converter does differently
Converting away from a legacy encoding has one property that makes it harder than it looks: the input is ambiguous by default.
Reph and pre-base vowel signs handled deliberately
In ANSI the glyphs for reph (<strong>র্</strong>) and for <strong>ি</strong> and <strong>ে</strong> sit in the byte stream in visual order. Unicode wants logical order: the sign after the consonant it belongs to, reph at the end of its cluster.
Several Bijoy variants accepted
SutonnyMJ was not the only font in use: different keyboards and later MJ fonts emitted slightly different code points. The input side accepts the common variants, and unmapped code points pass through.
English, numbers and punctuation survive
Latin words, figures, units, URLs and punctuation come out unchanged. Here that matters twice over, because Bijoy and English share the same byte range.
Runs offline and uploads nothing
The conversion is JavaScript in your own browser: nothing is transmitted, there is no account, and no copy of the document is kept. Old material is often internal or unpublished.
Where Bijoy to Unicode output needs care
Unicode fixes portability, but a few practical points are worth knowing before the text goes into production.
In Word, Docs and other word processors
Unicode Bengali is readable as soon as it is pasted, but the default Latin font may render it with a weak fallback face. Choosing a proper Bengali Unicode font — Nirmala UI, Noto Sans Bengali, SolaimanLipi, Kalpurush — makes it look right.
Line breaks and paragraph structure
Line breaks, paragraph breaks and blank lines are preserved, so the output keeps the shape of the original document.
Mixed Bijoy and English in the same file
Old newspaper files frequently mix the two encodings in one paragraph, and their byte ranges overlap. The converter reads its input by context, so English words, abbreviations such as "govt." and dates pass through.
Batch and whole-document work
One paste at a time suits a paragraph, an article or a chapter. For a whole file, upload the .docx or .xlsx: the text inside is converted in place and the document comes back with its formatting.
Your Bijoy to Unicode text never leaves the browser
Everything runs locally: the text you paste is processed in your browser and never posted to a server. There is no upload and no stored copy, which matters for unpublished drafts and legal documents.
The offline behaviour follows from the same design: since nothing is sent, nothing has to come back, so the tool works on a disconnected laptop or an office network.
File conversion in Bijoy to Unicode: what works today
Today the tool converts pasted text and lets you download the result as a plain .txt file — enough for a news article, a notice or a chapter.
File-level conversion is supported for Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx): hand over the document and you get the same document back with its layout intact, converted in your browser. PDF is not supported — it stores final layout rather than editable text runs.

How do I convert Bijoy to Unicode?
Paste the Bijoy / SutonnyMJ text into the input box on the left — the version that looks like "Avwg evsjvq Mvb MvB". Unicode Bengali appears in the right-hand box as you type.
Why does my Bijoy text look like English?
Because Bijoy stores Bengali as Latin code points and relies on SutonnyMJ to draw the Bengali shapes. Without that font you see the raw Latin characters. Unicode fixes this permanently.
Will the conversion keep my line breaks and English words?
Yes. Line breaks, Latin words, numbers and punctuation pass through untouched; only sequences that form valid Bijoy glyphs are rewritten, so documents mixing Bengali and English stay safe.
Can I convert a whole Bijoy document at once?
Upload the .docx or .xlsx: the text inside is converted in your browser and you get the same document back with its formatting preserved. The old .doc/.xls binary formats and PDF are not supported.
Is the converted text really indexable by Google?
Yes. Unicode Bengali is stored as Bengali characters, so search engines and site search can read and index it. ANSI text is stored as Latin code points, which is why old Bijoy archives are often unfindable.
Which font should I use for the Unicode result?
Any Bengali Unicode font: Nirmala UI or Noto Sans Bengali on Windows and Android, Kalpurush or SolaimanLipi in Bangladeshi office documents, the system Bengali font on iOS and macOS. The text is correct whichever you choose.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and nothing you paste is transmitted or stored. That is also why it is safe for internal, legal or unpublished documents.
Does it accept text from different Bijoy fonts and versions?
Yes. Different keyboards and MJ-family fonts emitted slightly different code points for the same letter, so the input side accepts the common variants. Code points it does not recognise pass through unchanged.
